My name is Altan Tutar. I’m a freshman from Izmir, Turkey, and I’m very excited to become a part of the team at the StudioM. For me, making is recreational and beneficial in the long run.I believe that every Davidson college needs to experience what’s it like to hang out in a ‘maker space.’ As the world is getting automated, and jobs are being replaced by algorithms, drones, and high-technology machinery, creativity is going to be much more important than it used to be. There is no doubt that 3D-printing and VR will be two of the most important environments where humans can reach to the limits of their creativity(if a limit exists!)
As I am here at Davidson over the whole Spring Break, I will have plenty of time to devote to making. As my first creation at the StudioM, I am using our 3D printer, MakerBot Replicator 5th Generation, to build a HTC Vive Console Stand. It will be interesting to have a 3-D printed stand next to our HTC Vive Headset.
It is also my foremost priority to make the StudioM accessible and visible to everyone.
My goal at the StudioM is to learn our tools and master them. Currently, I’m researching on using VR and 3-D printing in Davidson classes. I’m also looking forward to dive into what’s possible with our Phantom drone!
Hope that we will have a bigger team and a bigger space in the upcoming years!
